    Desirable Skills

    Desirable Skills (unlike required skills where you need to possess all those skills to have a good chance of your CV being considered) are like the icing on the cake.

     

    However, if you do have some or all the desirable skills an employer is looking for, in addition to the main required skills this could put you at a distinct advantage.

     

    Hard Skills

    Hard skills, also called technical skills, are any skills relating to a specific task or situation. It involves both understanding and proficiency in such specific activity that involves methods, processes, procedures, or techniques.

    Examples of hard skills include: Technical skills, Computer skills, Microsoft Office skills, Analytical skills, Marketing skills, Presentation skills, Management skills, Project management skills, Writing skills, Language skills, Design skills and Certification.

    Key Skills

    Whenever you apply for a job there is a job description and usually within this description the key skills that a potential employer wants will be listed.

    Some of the skills most welcomed include: (1) Communication (2) Industry specific skills (3) Leadership (4) Problem Solving (5) Time management 

    Your task is to work out if you possess the required skills then to give the best examples proving how you’ve used those skills.

    This helps to build a picture of whether you could add value to the company and if you would fit in with the existing team.

    Soft Skills

    Soft skills are a combination of people skills, social skills, communication skills, character or personality traits, attitudes, mindsets, career attributes, social intelligence, and emotional intelligence.  

    Examples of soft skills include: Communication, Team work, Problem solving, Time management, Critical Thinking & Decision Making.

    Transferable Skills

    Transferable skills are abilities or competencies that a candidate has developed in one job, which could be transferred to another. With technology and job roles changing all the time employers are placing more emphasis on transferable skills when assessing candidates.
