Job Description

DWP. Digital with Purpose.

Do you have a strong understanding of all the elements of interaction design?
Are you looking for a role that really focuses on meeting user needs and understanding their journeys?
Want to help change how millions of people interact with government services? We're looking for talented Interaction Designers to join our DWP Digital community. You'll work alongside other user centred design professionals who are committed to deliver the best possible outcomes for all of our users.

DWP is the UK's largest government department. We help people into work and make payments worth over £195bn a year, to support millions of daily users.

Our DWP Digital teams are delivering a once-in-a-generation transformation of products and services that almost everyone in the UK will use, at key times in their lives.

We're using fresh ideas and leading-edge technologies to create innovative, scalable and user-centric digital solutions that are changing how government works.

Delivery. Work. Projects.

You'll be joining a highly supportive UCD community, sharing your expertise, and learning new skills from those around you.

We use data from research and analytics to understand our user's needs. You will be testing that designs meet those needs, designing collaboratively and in the open as part of an agile, multidisciplinary team.

You'll create prototypes to test ideas and learn from them, and design with consideration for accessibility and inclusion.

We're looking for a team player and a collaborator. You'll be sharing your knowledge, ideas and suggestions across teams – and help us make sure our designs are reusable and consistent with the (url removed) Design System.

You'll also be an active part of Interaction Design communities in DWP, across government and beyond – It's a great environment to grow your skills, and career, while solving design problems that are unique to DWP and our users.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

User focus – Use data from research and analytics to understand user's needs and test designs to meet them
Evidence and context-based design – Work with others to design solutions that are based on evidence, and help identify gaps in knowledge
Prototyping – Use a variety of prototyping tools and techniques
Communication – Present your work and share design decisions, explaining ideas in a way that people understand and actively listen to other people's input
Accessibility – Design with accessibility in mind, showing familiarity with the WCAG 2.1 guidelines and designing to meet AA standards
Collaboration – Work in the open, engaging others in the design process Details. Wages. Perks.

In return for your skills, we offer a competitive salary of up to £41,480.
