Job Description

NETWORK ENGINEER

One of the clients we work most closely with, a legal firm in Leeds city centre that specialises in the financial and insurance sectors, is looking for a Network Engineer to support their infrastructure. You will be responsible for ensuring the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of their network by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, optimising and improving the environment. This will include liaising closely with other teams to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues to ensure the smooth running of core operations, providing peer review and guidance for the team's changes and offering advice and guidance regarding the latest technologies to ensure the infrastructure is fit for purpose as the business scales up.

A salary of up to 45k
A hybrid working arrangement – 2 days a week in the office to start with, going down to once a week if preferred once you know the tech, team and role well

Skillset required:

Demonstrable experience in a similar network administration role
Experience of implementing and managing Cisco switches and routers is a must-have
A good understanding of networking technologies such as VPN, Cisco LAN, MPLS WAN, TCP/IP and FortiGate Firewall
Experience managing enterprise firewall systems
At least Layer 3 network knowledge
Strong problem-solving, problem management and root cause analysis (RCA) skills
Experience managing enterprise firewall systems
Good working knowledge of device hardening frameworks such as CIS Benchmarking
Experience of working to security standards such as ISO27001, PCI, NIST or CIS

Desirable skills/qualifications:

A CCNA certification
Data centre experience
Kemp load balancers experience
Working knowledge of virtualization technologies such as Hyper-V, VMware and AHV
Experience of implementing and administrating system management tools such as the System Centre suite, SolarWinds Orion and PRTG
Experience of MFA and NAC systems

Key responsibilities:

Working closely with the other IT teams you will support the diagnoses and resolution of problems across the company's infrastructure
Ensuring that all tasks and procedures are carried out effectively and efficiently to agreed levels of service or specific requirements of Service Level Agreements.
Creating, updating and managing network documentation, ensuring that it's accurate and complete
Participating in reviews of systems performance, and providing advice and assisting specialists or other system and service providers to plan details of amendments and upgrades to systems
Carrying out system upgrades and patching of key systems such as Cisco switches, firewalls and other networking equipment
Ensuring systems are patched as per the patch schedule
Ensuring that safety and security procedures are followed,
Maximising network performance by monitoring performance and troubleshooting network problems and outages.
Identifying and implementing solutions to improve infrastructure processes
Providing out of hours support as part of the on-call rota (1 week in every 4 is the current schedule)
Traveling to branch sites and data centres will be required on occasion (this is fully paid for)
