Job Description

INSIDE IR35. Hybrid-working (main office Hatfield). Oracle and SQL Server. December-March.


Please note: this role is a Security Cleared role. Candidates who do not hold active Security Clearance will be unable to progress with this role.

The role is to join as a member of the GIS Databases team which supports all our internal database environments across the group on Oracle and SQL Server. The role's main priority will be to manage our production and non-production database systems proactively and working on new projects that involved new DB systems.

04 Dec 22 until 03 March 23.

£550 per day (INSIDE IR35).

Hybrid-working with main office based in Hatfield.

Proactively manage, maintain, and monitor Oracle and SQLServer systems based in our Datacentre in multiple locations.

Diagnose the database system health regularly and troubleshoot any issues.

Extensive knowledge in Oracle and SQL Server architecture and ability to contribute for the design of database systems in new projects.

Work on multiple DB support requests from all application stakeholders.

Persistently seek innovative ways to improve DBA Team's efficiency and quality.

Provide technical expertise to the development teams by assisting developers with implementations and ongoing maintenance of the Database environments.

Managing all Oracle and SQL Server related Backups and recovery scenarios and perform backup validation and restore tests.

Responsible for creation of DR runbook for different database systems and participate actively in DR tests scheduled by DR team.

Provide proactive support all production, development & test environments in Oracle and SQL Server.

Capacity monitoring and forecast the growth of critical databases.

Ability to work with multiple virtual teams in delivering BAU and project related initiatives.

Installation of quarterly critical patch updates and working on DB upgrades for Oracle systems.

Installation of service pack, cumulative update and security updates for SQL Server systems.

Develop and maintain relationship with application stakeholders and taking ownership in performing periodic DB service review with them.

The ability to work closely with problem management team in identifying the root cause for DB related major incidents and remediation.

Responsible for implementing CIS benchmark recommendations as part of Oracle and SQL Server build and closely work with security team on various vulnerabilities and security initiatives as a Senior member of DBA team.

Delivering all DB systems related compliance control by working with internal and external audit teams.

Participate in software license true-up yearly and any license audit for database systems to ensure compliance.


The ideal candidate will have over ten years of proven experience as a DBA, be fast to learn our topology, have excellent communication skills both face to face and, on the telephone, have the ability to assess and prioritise tasks without close supervision and excellent troubleshooting skills. Effective and accurate documentation, with real-time updates to the various ticketing systems and projects tools is essential.

· Oracle 19c and 12c running on Windows Platforms

· SQL Server 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019 in standalone, failover clustering and Always on AG configuration

· SSAS, SSRS and SSIS configuration

· Extensive skills and knowledge of the Oracle and SQL Server toolsets

· Good SQL & PL/SQL and T-SQL knowledge

· Performance Tuning expertise on both Oracle and SQL Server databases

· Good knowledge and working experience of RMAN

· Thorough understanding of High Availability and DR including working experience of Oracle FailSafe and SQL Server Always on Availability Group

· Experience of working within a controlled ITIL environment with good understanding of control processes & procedures

· Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills· Motivated team player with excellent organisational skills, triage and task prioritisation.
