Job Description

Principle Engineer (any language but ideally C/C++, Python, Go or Rust) – Greenfield

London (1 day per week)

£130,000 – £150,000 + equity + a crazy benefit package!

An exclusive partnership with one of the hottest and innovative games tech companies in the industry who are branching out into a whole new world… The Metaverse.

They started in 2012 and are dedicated to creating and enabling fulfilling online experiences – from multiplayer games to the live interactive events and social spaces that promise to unleash the full potential of virtual worlds and the metaverse. They adapt and extend it for real-world use, augmenting the commercially proven technology with expertise in computational modelling, AI, data analytics and other areas relevant to defence and national security.

They are investing more in their existing capabilities and pushing them further and further in terms of scale, performance and quality as well as turning their attention into new areas of the product they haven't had a chance to tackle yet. This is translated into both growing their existing teams as well as starting new ones. The growth isn't just about having more engineers available to build software, they know they need to support engineers and a big part of that is having enough technical leadership at the principal level to provide guidance, mentorship and technical direction.

That's where you come in……

The gig:

This is an open opportunity as a Principal Engineer you will be working in a team of 30 which is due to grow even further over the next 12 months. There is already 2 Principal Engineers and we're looking for another excellent human to join the squad! This isn't a pastoral management role so you won't be involved in any 121's etc but will be supporting folk technically. You will own the roadmap, work with Product and define how things should look. There's a lot of greenfield work to get your teeth stuck into and steer the technical direction. You'll work with senior stakeholders and help cut through the noise, and able to handle oodles of ambiguity.

The team are top-notch and on another level, and in the nicest way, you should be comfortable with possibly working with better engineers than yourself. Your job is going to be different to the IC's on the team and you won't be getting your hands dirty coding much but you're someone who has been there, done that and got all the t-shirts.

We're looking for someone who has a breadth of experience working on commercial software, ideally across different companies and industries, also ideal if you have worked in a big co and maybe a couple of start-ups, or just the latter.
You call yourself a generalist or Polyglot engineer, or you could also have a great nickname 😊 Your experience is across multiple different tech stacks and even better with multi-cloud experience.
A good understanding of distributed systems would be awesome!
You have a great mindset when it comes to engineering delivery. Not everyday will be sunshine and roses and there will be some hard decisions to make and your comfortable and able to demonstrate dealing with real-life delivery problems.
You're a nice human being and love supporting others to become even better.
You can work with stakeholders at a high level.
You LOVE technology, working with clever folk and looking to join a company working on complex and interesting problems, who are pushing technology to the absolute limits!Culture wise they genuinely are one of the best. Even though they've done amazingly they've remained humble. They're ambitious, encouraging, and always curious. They welcome mistakes, resilience, and courage. They're a friendly bunch of smart and kind humans.

They are super flexible on working set up but the team chose to come into the London office once a week. They offer a load of flexible working hours, have a really interactive and fun onboarding process, and ensure you meet lots of different people in the business!

And they have a benefits package which includes…

Equity/shares scheme
Unlimited holiday – seriously!
Enhanced Mat and Paternity leave
Life insurance
Performance Bonus (very nice)
Spending Card – £150 a month currently
BUPA healthcare for you and the fam!
Dog friendly office
Annual salary reviews
And a load more…2 stage interview kicking off asap.
