Job Description

Job No: Tectre1166

Title: Senior Cloud DevOps Engineer

Salary: £57,000 – £98,000 (dependent on experience)

Role: Permanent

Location: London (flexible working options available)

The company:

Our client is on the mission to build the bank of the future, and they need help to do it. Continuing their extensive transformation programme, our client is redefining what a bank needs to be from the inside out, their technology, their culture, and their mindset is changing, all to show what an engineering-led organisation can do. This vacancy is in the Commercial Banking division, within the Origination value stream. Our client’s purpose is to create and deliver products that enable clients to grow their businesses. Those businesses provide services that millions of customers across the UK rely upon, day-to-day and especially in their time of need.

Job Details:

Our client is now seeking to recruit a strong Lead SRE/Platform Engineer to support their journey onto the Azure Public Cloud Platform. This is a key time in their journey, and they’re seeking people who will enjoy the opportunity to shape the direction and success of their new team.

The role gives opportunities to specialise in Site Reliability and DevOps engineering. Our client’s focus is on building and running large-scale, distributed, fault-tolerant systems and providing mentorship to other teams so they can be self-sufficient on public cloud. Our client’s team’s diversity, intellectual curiosity, openness, problem solving skills and continual learning mentality are key to its success.

A role should not define you, therefore our client prefers to work with people that have well-honed skills, experience, and knowledge in varying specialisms that they are comfortable applying. Below is a list of some of the specific activities you could be responsible for depending on your background, but no single role will involve all of these:

* CI/CD Automation for Build & Release (in more than 1 tooling solution)

* Designing and coding Micro/Application Services

* Automated Unit/Integration/Load/Performance Testing

* Observability, Logging, Monitoring & Alerting

* Container Image Management & Security

* Networking

* Kubernetes and Service Mesh

* API Gateway Management

* IAM – Identity & Access Management

* Cloud Security

* Cost Management

Key Skills:

To support our client’s new platform, they understand that a wide range of skills are vital and those skills can only be satisfied through a self-organised and highly cohesive team. Their goal is to build that team and support each member in developing their expertise, technical leadership and career. This means we need people who love to mentor, but also love to learn from their peers continually, all to ensure the team is constantly evolving together.

As a minimum to be considered, we would need to see evidence of:

* Prior work experience at a senior engineering level within the field of DevOps

* Very strong DevOps skill set with expertise in tools like Jenkins, Azure DevOps, Nexus, and Git

* Kubernetes & Service Mesh (AKS & Istio an advantage)

* Experience programming in at least two (but not all!) of the following languages: Java, Groovy, Scala, Python, Go, C++, JavaScript, PowerShell or Bash/Shell

* Systematic problem-solving approach, comfortable gathering requirements and strong communication skills and a sense of ownership

* Knowledge of effective cloud architecture solutions.

The following is a list of desirable skills, but these are differentiators for the role and not essential. Do apply, even if you don’t have these; Building and Maintaining micro service architectures with REST API’s, Experience in Azure technologies such as App Gateway, API Manager, AKS, Cosmos DB, Azure SQL, Azure Firewall, Proficient in monitoring tools e.g. Azure Monitor/Log Analytics/Dynatrace, Security Cloud & API, Encryption & Certificates, Provisioning components and services using ARM & Helm Templates
