DWP. Digital with Purpose.

Do you have the skills to install, maintain, upgrade, and continuously improve the operating environment of the UK's biggest government department – and power one of the largest digital transformations in Europe?

Can you deliver reliable and performant infrastructure that supports services used by over 20 million people a day, and payments of £195Bn a year?

This is a fantastic opportunity to join DWP Hybrid Cloud Services (HCS) as a Senior Infrastructure Engineer (Unix Design Specialist) at a time of significant transformation. We're driving the implementation and adoption of Hybrid Cloud Products and Services in line with Government Digital Service (GDS) and DWP's own strategic hosting architectural principles.

The HCS team design, build and operate all DWP hosting infrastructure including Public Cloud and On-Premise hosting.

All across DWP, expert Digital teams like ours are using fresh ideas and leading-edge technologies to create innovative, scalable and user-centric digital solutions.

We're changing face of public services used by nearly every person in the UK, at key moments in their lives. The scale of the engineering challenge here is extraordinary, and our purpose is unique. We'd love you to join us.

The HCS Operations team provide subject matter expertise for Unix / Oracle Operating System hosting solutions, and virtualisation / Container technologies such as VMware, Nutanix AHV, OLVM and Openshift.

You will be responsible for supporting the design and build of hosting solutions, confirming requirements and producing High Level and Low Level Design documentation, with a focus on 'Design to Operate' and 'Secure by Design' principles.

What experience/tech stack do I need?

Experience designing and deploying OLVM, VMware or Nutanix Hypervisors and Platforms
Experience designing and deploying Unix based Operating systems such as Red Hat Linux, Oracle Linux, AIX and Solaris
Experience producing architectural and low-level server designs and documentation
Experience managing Stake holders and vendors to suggest solutions that are secure by design and operationally robust
