The Opportunity:

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer to join our IT Solutions team here in Leeds. The role is based in our Leeds office but will involve hybrid working. This a key position as the breadth and complexity of our business requires first class IT solutions and systems. Working in an agile squad (and be part of a larger Software Engineering department), producing high quality IT solutions and services against agreed designs and in compliance with Markel and regulatory standards.

The department is friendly, fast paced and with a high volume of demand coming from our business units. The work is interesting and varied ranging from the creation of MVC browser based business applications through complex backend integrations delivered via API’s. You will be a passionate advocate for software engineering disciplines ensuring Markel remains at the forefront of IT delivery standard methodologies. The successful candidate will also mentor junior members of the team when needed.

What you’ll be doing:

Collaborating with your Scrum team colleagues (and wider Software Engineering team) to provide Markel with a world class Software Engineering capability

Producing high quality IT solutions and services against agreed designs and standards

Ensure the appropriate technology and level of complexity is used when delivering solutions

Using tools to deliver & maintain a high standard of code quality and appropriate documentation

Taking ownership to investigate and resolve service functionality related issues when necessary

Our Must Have’s:

* A proven track record working as a “hands-on” Software Engineer

* Proven skills in C# (.net), and .Net Core

* Experience of API integration frameworks such as Azure API Gateway or similar

* Experience of relational databases, data integration (SOA/API) and message bus (ESB) tools

* Agile project delivery and DevOps methodology and effective use in large Enterprises

* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on understanding the actual needs

Our Nice To Have’s:

* Experience of development using Angular 6+, Python, JavaScript or other languages

* Experience developing solutions & services in the Public Cloud (AWS/Azure) is highly advantageous

* Scaled Agile (SAFE) or other delivery methodologies

* Any experience working in a Speciality Commercial Insurance business is advantageous
