Job Description

Jisc is looking for a Senior Systems Administrator to join our team on a Hybrid basis- office based with full flexibility to work from home or at any of our main hubs (London, Bristol, Manchester and Harwell).. You will join us on a full time, permanent position and in return, you will receive a competitive salary from £50,000 per annum negotiable depending on experience.

The Senior Systems Administrator role:

The security team, part of Group CTO, protects UK Education and Research against a wide range of cyber security threats, supporting our members and customers in improving their digital resilience. Our products and services are currently organised into three principal groups.

You will comply with service level agreements to ensure that it meets the needs of the business and products that rely upon this. You will also assist in the monitoring and auditing of all systems to ensure all systems are performing and optimised to ensure that services are meeting the needs of the business and our members.

Responsibilities as our Senior Systems Administrator?

Maintenance and development of platforms and applications supporting the work of the cybersecurity function, including patching and monitoring

Provide second line troubleshooting and support to users of services hosted on the platform

Assist in change management policies and procedures in accordance business requirements

Assist in the disaster recovery maintenance, testing and validation required to protect our critical service in accordance with the defined policies and procedures

Ensure systems are documented and compliant with standards defined by the organisation and regulatory bodies

Ensure that all documentation, process, and procedure are maintained and reviewed in accordance with the define policies and standards

Work with teams outside of the security function to understand requirements and advise on the development of new systems and services and recommend best practices

Support the Implement systems automation and high availability topologies

Oversee the general health of services and the infrastructure, and pro-actively identify required upgrades and performance bottlenecks

To be aware of current and emerging technologies that would ensure that we can protect and enhance the security for our members.

What we’re looking for in our Senior Systems Administrator:

Knowledgeable in Linux server administration

Deploying, Integrating, and administering a wide variety of proprietary and open-source systems

Administering a variety of common web server technologies (including MySQL, PostgreSQL, PHP, Ruby, Java, Python)

Automating systems and processes, building in resilience

Ability to plan, prioritise and manage resources within a collaborative team-based environment

Fluency in one or more scripting languages, such as Python
