Software Engineer

Are you a keen software developer, with a firm foundation in computing, engineering and simulation? If so, then consider joining the Test and Evaluation Simulation team to help create and run the specialised simulators that are shaping the future of the Typhoon platform. We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Typhoon Simulation Software Engineer based at our site in Warton, Lancashire.

You will be joining the Modelling & Simulation (M&S) discipline within BAE Systems Air which supports development of our platforms across the entire product lifecycle – from concept analysis through to Test & Evaluation (T&E) and Training. As a Senior Typhoon Simulator Engineer you will be part of Simulation department within the T&E organisation, working closely with the Typhoon project to explore future cockpit and avionics designs on Typhoon.

The team you will be joining develops the Typhoon Active Cockpit simulator and its supporting utilities, prototyping new avionic and cockpit designs in conjunction with engineers from the Typhoon project. The role will provide opportunities ranging from advanced software development, through to trial preparation, execution and analysis. Some team members specialise, whilst others enjoy the variety and broad experience on offer within the Simulation department.

This is a highly fast paced software development role where you will see immediate impact of the work you are producing. You will have the opportunity to work closely with aircrew and end customers to continually improve and refine cockpit design.

Your main responsibilities as a Software Engineer will involve:

Developing software for the Typhoon Cockpit Prototyping Simulator
Ownership of requirements, design and implementation, system integration and test, within schedule and estimates
Reporting on progress and providing feedback to team members and leadership
Design of technical solutions, integrating commercial hardware and in-house software
Planning and estimating development activities
Working with customers to support delivered systems and resolve issues
Technical management of tasks
Line management and mentoring of team members
Development/refinement of development processesYour skills and qualifications:

Essential:

Degree or equivalent experience in Software Engineering or similar STEM subject.
Strong programming knowledge and experience, preferably in C/C++ using Visual Studio
Experience of configuration control tools, particularly MercurialDesirable:

Typhoon domain knowledge, particularly cockpit Human Machine Interface (HMI)
Mentoring
Knowledge and experience of Linux
Avionics/Mission systems domain knowledge
Use of Jira to manage software tasks
Knowledge of Simulation Interoperability and associated standardsWhat we are looking for in you:

Salary: £46,492 – £50,677
