Job Description

A global company in the North East required a Software Support Engineer to create a brand new team to maintain/ support the software used by both employees and clients. You will be responsible for identifying and implementing update and patching tools as well as managing software packaging and deployments, investigating any incidents and problems, and communicating progress and status reports to the Leadership Team.

You will have the opportunity to develop the software support team and be able to own the software support space for the business. You will collaborate with the Infrastructure and Cloud Engineering teams to ensure all endpoints, servers and network infrastructure on premises and in the cloud are updated regularly and fully patched.

Responsibilities

Drive evaluation, product selection, implementation and administration of tools to provide efficiencies in packaging, testing and deployment of software and patches
Perform software upgrades, updates and patching of endpoint devices and servers
Develop action plans and schedules for proactive updates and upgrades
Create and share operational metrics, status reports and other management communications intended to improve the update and patching program
Ensure all implemented patching solutions are backed up with documentation, training and expertise

Alongside other teams, you will aim to achieve:

Update and patch compute, storage and network infrastructure
Create and maintain master images for endpoint devices and servers
Remediate software vulnerabilities
Respond to software update and patching incidents logged on the ticket management system

You will be working with…

Managing industry packages
Microsoft System Centre Configuration Manager/ SCCM
Microsoft 365 Tooling
Reporting on all upgrades
Software updates, packaging and deployments
Patch Management Tools
Scripting and automation tools
Working with Windows and Apple operating systems
Management of software asset management tools
Proactively using data to inform upgrades or new software implementation
