Job Description

We are currently recruiting for a Solution Architect to join our Cancer 2.0 programme.

This is a unique opportunity to be a part of a new strategic initiative launched by Genomics England. The programme aims to explore how long-read sequencing technology and multimodal data can support earlier, faster diagnosis of cancer.

In this role, you will work with internal Genomics England squads deliver key network solutions to our NHS partners. This includes, working with NHS sites to ensure secure networking is in place to support high bandwidth streaming of data. You will also work with NHS IT teams to ensure HSCN networking settings (Health & Social Care Network), routers, & firewalls are in place to support cloud integration (AWS).

In addition, you will also work with our High Performance Compute (HPC) team to design pipelines and compute solutions that are capable of managing the anticipated data levels. This includes AWS specialist compute for GPU and potentially hybrid compute for HPC.

Please note, this is a 2 year Fixed Term Contract.

Essential Skills & Responsibilities

* Expert understanding of network design, particularly across IT infrastructure environments. Including knowledge of AWS networking and specialist compute technology services. GPU etc.

* Knowledge of Health & Social Care Network (HSCN) and the ability to work with NHS networking specialists across areas of firewalls, routing, & bandwidth.

* Ability to interface with other architects from Genomics England (Bio-pipelines and Cyber Security squads) to support security and imaging transfer work from NHS partners

* Previous solution design experience of LAN, WAN and a broad knowledge of Firewalls (including Cisco, Fortigate, CheckPoint and Palo Alto)

* Experience writing both HLD & LLD solution designs and supporting implementation by working with broader technology and engineering teams.


* Degree level qualification or equivalent

* AWS certified architect professional / AWS Infrastructure architect

* Networking certifications

Genomics England operates a blended working model as we know our people appreciate the flexibility. We expect most people to come into the office 2 times each month as a minimum. However, this will vary according to role and will be agreed with your team leader. For some people this is 1 day a quarter, for others it is several days a week. There is no expectation that staff will return to the office full time unless they want to. The exception would be some of our roles that would require you to be on site full time e.g., lab teams, reception team.

Our teams and squads have, and will continue to, reflect on what works best for them to work together successfully and have the freedom to design working patterns to suit, beyond the minimum. Our office locations are Canary Wharf, Cambridge and Leeds.
